Amalgamation Announcement - March 08th, 2008 in Ottawa
Amalgamation Announcement
As announced at our AGM March 08th, 2008 in Ottawa; the CSHA has decided not to participate further in amalgamation talks with Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association. This decision was not taken lightly.
After the last amalgamation meeting in Calgary, February 06, 2008 between CWHBA, AAFC and CSHA, it was apparent that we were in the same place we started at three years earlier. It did not seem that we were going to be of any use in the process. CSHA was not obliged to sit at the amalgamation table – we went there to offer an option for the CWHBA in their efforts to address their issues with the APA. Unfortunately, we were unable to find common ground to provide a basis for that amalgamation process.
It has been four years since our studbook changes were submitted to the AAFC for approval and then to be held in limbo while amalgamation talks were ongoing. Four years is a long time for any business to be on hold and we could not delay any longer. With nothing constructive coming forth, CSHA decided to step away from the amalgamation process and direct our focus on our association. The uncertainty of the amalgamation situation has placed difficult choices on the shoulders of many breeders.
The CSHA directors felt it was important to move forward with our business. We requested that the Government process our studbook changes immediately. The AAFC have accepted our request and our studbook changes are being processed at the moment - the CSHA is looking to a bright future.
CLRC Access
The Canadian Sport Horse Association has requested our studbook database be removed from being publicly displayed on the CLRC website. This decision was motivated by the desire of our association to be proactive in protecting the privacy of our membership. Federal privacy laws must be respected and thus we requested our studbook database be private. All members have full access to pedigree information and may do so by contacting the National office. The CSHA remains committed to congruency with the model employed by European breed registries and in remaining compliant with the law. We encourage all current members to contact the National office for pedigree information.
