New website
...Really....? I dunno if it's just me, then.
I'm not usually a wet blanket and I hope I don't sound petty or picky but I don't think it's all that wonderful...? *sorry!* I mean, it's early days yet, and this is a vast improvement on the previous one certainly, but as a "pedestrian" user I find it boring and devoid of tasteful graphics or colours, and definitely not sticky or intuitive - which I've understood is key to any site.
My knee-jerk reaction when I landed on the new site was to find the equine For Sale / Wanted /etc page, but couldn't see anything that even suggests that. Maybe it's there, but I couldn't find it...?
Then I went to look at the sport horse directory and found a massive, somewhat redundant databank that seems to be a listing of any horse that was ever registered, but nothing that I could see as particularly relevant/current in terms of breeding stallions. Maybe it's there, but I looked around a bit and couldn't find that, either...
What do I know, anyway. Sites are only things I browse/use and definitely don't build, so I'm not coming here with sticks and stones. It IS better than the previous version, so for that alone, we applaud!!
new site
As the enormous job of populating the site is still ongoing, I'm very pleased with the progress. I guess because I have the advantage of knowing how much volunteer time has gone into this new (and old)site, I appreciate how far we have come. Some of the things I like are the thoughtful way the forms are set up, the info on the stallions and contact information (I don't have to keep digging into my other files or online somewhere else to access) and that the Provinces will be able to post their current information on clinics, inspections and member news, etc. Once the Marketplace section is activated, I think it will be a great place to post horses for sale and look for them as well.
I especially like the sponsors pages with links to their websites ... it is the least we can do for their support. A lot of the information to populate the site will come from member participation so I look forward to seeing those people step up and take responsibility for keeping their provincial pages up dated by supplying information and pictures. The bones are no here so in the near future it will be up to members to flesh it out. We can't leave it up to a few to do all this work.
I look forward to a vibrant, exciting site in 2008.
You could be a bit more
You could be a bit more 'helpful' if you pointed out what you are trying to stick in and where...on your wet blanket.
Start with constructive criticism...meaning identify issues and then suggest potential resolution...not some ill-conceived comments that do nothing but confuse readers.
Also if you know you meant well, you could add your comments with your username showing (and not as a guest) so we can appreciate you better. How about that?
I agree it looks good! I am
I agree it looks good! I am a web developer and we use this same framework for pretty much all our sites! it's great.
CSHA has come a LONG WAY
This new site definitely shows that the organization is working hard to be better. Good job guys!
it's getting there....
Ok maybe this is just me, but I am finding a lot of problems lately with the site. I thought it looked great when it first went up but now I'm not so sure...I almost feel as this one isn't being used anymore....??? The ad's section is soo out-dated, and I've tried posting new ads and it won't let me. I can hardly find any info on registering and inspecting my mares and foals, and it just has an overall feel of "neglect" to me. I understand that a website is a lot of work (I have two that I run for my businesses, though by no means this large), and it is the summer and we're all out doing the horse thing :)...but when I come here looking for info, I can't find it.
Maybe I'm missing things, but I seem to recall that the old website was much easier to navigate and had tons more useful and helpful information.
