The members of the 2007 team – coach and riders – say they used the principles of Functional Conformation to their advantage. Returning team member Bree Johnston (1st in jumping, 4th in written test) said, “Functional conformation was a very valuable tool. More people should get on board.”
Tess Novacek (1st in dressage, 3rd in written test), also a returning member, said, “We used quite a bit of the functional conformation, and we got compliments from all the other coaches about how well we were able to adapt to each horse.” Jennifer Smart (high-point rider and winner of the written test) said, “It was easy to get a quick feel of the horses, because we assessed them quickly and accurately.” Kelly McAdam (alternate rider and assistant coach) said, “Most of getting ready to ride was analyzing the conformation to determine which rider would suit which horse.
Cathy Chalack (Olds College instructor and team coach) added, “Functional conformation is one of the tools we used to assess the horses quickly. Bottom line: that’s why we did so well. I even took magazines [containing Wardrope’s conformation articles] with me to introduce functional anatomy to the other coaches.”
